VOLUME 2: RELEASE was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Best World Music Album.
Afro Celt Sound System started as a fairly nebulous, if noble, idea--bring together an assortment of European and African musicians and hope to come up with a result greater than the sum of the project's parts. The idea paid off, and the progress of the band may be measured by its confidence in moving well beyond its initial premise.
With its second album, RELEASE, the group coalesces around the talents of seven Irish and African performers and more prominent dance beats. Sinead O'Connor provides a haunting vocal element on the title track, while Even in My Dreams sets an angelic harp against an initial trip-hop sequence.
